CIRCUS, DANCE, JAZZ, STREET LIFE, ARCHITECTURE THEMES HOOGENDYK, Marianna van Rossen. 1955 SKETCHBOOK WITH 90 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS, PAINTINGS, WATERCOLORS & MIXED MEDIA PIECES. In a standard composition notebook (unlined); there are blank pages following the paintings/drawings, and the next to last two pages are pencil lecture notes. The first page, a pencil, ink and wash drawing of a young girl, is dated 4/4/55. The rest are undated; all are unsigned, but the notebook cover bears the artist's name in capital letters. Ms. Hoogendyk, also known as Marianne, was an art student at the Sorbonne; her family was from Sharon, Connecticut at the time. There are some accomplished sketches of buildings, of circus scenes with animals and clowns, some studies of men and children on the street, of musicians in concert/jamming, and of costumed dancers (most of the latter are crayon or pastel). Overall: 20 pencil, ink and wash drawings; 39 pencil drawings; 7 watercolor paintings; 17 crayon/pastel drawings; and 7 mixed media paintings. A nicely preserved archive. $850.00 #83671 |
